WRC Annual Appeal

December 20, 2024

The Women's Resource Centre (WRC) launched its 2024 Annual Appeal in November 2024, and to date, the organisation has raised just over $30,000 towards this initiative. With a fundraising goal of $100,000 to be reached by the end of this fiscal year, March 31st, 2024, WRC continues to call on the community’s support to ensure the sustainability of its critical services for women in Bermuda.

This essential campaign will ensure the continued delivery of WRC’s critical services at no or low cost, supporting women’s safety, well-being, and empowerment. The funds raised will contribute to the operational expenses for the 2025/2026 fiscal year, enabling WRC to sustain programmes like individual and group counselling, legal advocacy support, life skills workshops, and emergency hardship assistance. With women in Bermuda facing increasing challenges, the WRC remains committed to advocating for their needs and providing a safe space to rebuild and thrive.

2023 Annual Report Released As part of this initiative, the WRC is also releasing its 2023 Annual Report, which highlights the organisation’s impact, client demographics, and strategic priorities. The report outlines WRC’s successes over the past year, including the number of women served and the programmes that have made tangible differences in their lives.

37 Years of Impact and Growth For 37 years, the Women’s Resource Centre has been funded by the public’s generosity and belief in our work. We are deeply grateful for this unwavering support, which has allowed us to scale our organisation from its initial inception as the Rape Crisis Centre in 1987 to a full-scale referral centre. Today, we provide access not only to crisis counselling but also short-term support for mild to moderate mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, postpartum depression, burnout, and overwhelm.

Since making these strategic changes, counselling client intake has grown from 17 women in 2021/2022 to 47 women in 2023/2024 — an increase of 176.47%. This growth highlights the critical need for expanded capacity to meet the escalating demand for our programmes.

Impact Stories Among the success stories shared in the report, one client reflected on how WRC's counselling services helped her rebuild her confidence and rediscover her sense of self after surviving an abusive relationship:
"The Women's Resource Centre was my lifeline when I felt completely alone. The counselling team gave me the tools to rebuild my life and believe in myself again. I don't know where I'd be without them."

Another client, who accessed legal advocacy support, shared:
"The WRC stood beside me when I had no idea how to navigate the legal system. Their guidance gave me the strength and clarity I needed to move forward."

A Year of Transformation In 2023, the Women's Resource Centre embarked on an exciting transformation with a full rebrand, unveiling a new logo and website that reflect its mission of advocacy, safety, and support. Alongside these changes, WRC expanded its services to better meet the evolving needs of women in Bermuda, broadening its outreach and ensuring no woman is left behind.
